Scenery Along the Way — A Canvas of Nature
I remember the mountains back then; they were not very tall, but they hid many secrets. In the early morning, sunlight filtered through the trees and danced on the mountain path, casting dappled shadows underfoot. The air was filled with the scent of earth and fresh grass. The roadsides were lined with lush trees, and occasionally, a few wildflowers swayed gently in the breeze. White chrysanthemums and purple lavender blended beautifully with the surrounding greenery, forming a natural painting.
As we climbed higher, the scenery around us slowly changed. From tree-lined paths to hills covered in wild grass, and then to the rocky, exposed summit, every place had its own unique beauty. The mountain breeze brought a refreshing coolness, and birds perched on branches, chirping their songs as if greeting our arrival. I couldn’t help but stop and listen carefully to the sounds of nature — the crisp calls of birds, the loud chirping of cicadas, and the soft hum of insects in the grass, all blending together like a beautiful symphony.
Birds Singing and Insects Chirping — A Symphony of Nature
When we reached the dense forest, the surrounding sounds became clearer. Different birds sang on the trees; sometimes it was a melodious trill, sometimes it was a sharp, chirping call, as if the whole forest were communicating with us in its own unique language. My friends and I would often stop under the trees, looking up to observe the birds flying, trying to identify their species. Occasionally, we’d hear the distant call of a deer, deep and haunting, adding a sense of mystery to the atmosphere.
In the grass, groups of insects were busy working, butterflies danced gracefully between flowers, and dragonflies hovered in the air. The quiet hum of insects seemed to be nature’s whisper, delicate and harmonious. Sometimes, we would pause, crouch down to observe these tiny creatures, pick up fallen butterfly wings, or gently part the grass to watch busy ant colonies at work.
Catching Scorpions — Little Adventures
During our hikes, we often encountered little adventures. Sometimes, we’d find strange little creatures hiding beneath rocks or tree roots, and the most exciting of them all was the scorpion. They usually hid in cool places, their black bodies and long tails standing out. As kids, we loved to form a circle, using sticks or rocks to carefully catch them.
Every time we caught a scorpion, we would eagerly show each other, thrilled with our discovery. Sometimes, the scorpion would quickly curl up into a ball and raise its threatening pincers, and we would watch cautiously, afraid of a sudden strike. Although we knew scorpions could be poisonous, our youthful curiosity made us fearless, enjoying the close contact with nature.
Looking Back from the Summit — Imprints of Childhood
When we finally reached the summit, the view in the distance made me forget all the fatigue. The sunlight bathed everything around us, and the mountains, rivers, and valleys stretched out before our eyes. All the tiredness seemed to disappear in that moment. Standing on the peak, my friends and I would always laugh together, sharing the discoveries and fun we had along the way, pointing at distant sights, and dreaming about the future.
The memories of those mountain climbs are still vivid in my mind. The mountains back then, the scenery like a painting; the me of that time, full of curiosity and exploration of nature; the friends, who shared every scorpion-catching laugh and every beautiful view with me. Though years have passed, whenever I close my eyes, I can almost still hear the birds singing and insects chirping, see those scorpions wriggling in the cracks of rocks, and feel that pure freedom and joy.
